Phunami is a PHP script that provides
nearly-static copies of your dynamic scripts. This
is necessary because most PHP scripts that sites
rely on for things like content management and
forums aren't set up to handle a sudden onslaught
of traffic. One of the most common ways this is
seen is a "Slashdotting". However, in many cases,
the failure isn't the Web server, hardware, or
bandwidth (though that can happen too), but rather
the fact that the page is making dozens of
database calls and doing complex PHP logic to
build the now popular page. What Phunami does is
creates a static copy of the same page and gives
it to visitors from the source of the traffic wave.
