cdr stands for CDRip. It is a Perl program that
uses dialog to provide an ncurses front end for
ripping audio and encoding MP3s. It supports
lame, cdparanoia, and CDDB / FreeDDB

T.E.A.R. (pronounced Tair) is a console-based frontend for common MP3/OGG creation tools which automates all of the settings involved in ripping and encoding a CD. TEAR uses the CDDB database at freedb.org to name, organize, and add ID3 tags to each encoded file. It can use either cdparanoia or cdda2wav to rip .WAV files from the CD and it can use lame, bladeenc, gogo, or OggEnc to encode them. TEAR also supports SMP.

CD-Command is a primitive commandline CD player/ripper which supports CDDB lookups and can cache CDDB information for offline use. It can rip to .wav natively, or use an external program for encoding to other formats.

RipOff is a GTK+ based CD ripper for Linux (and
hopefully for other Unix systems once some testing
and fixing have been done) that has a simple
interface, CDDB lookups, and a plugin-based
encoder architecture. It attempts to appeal to
those users who want a non-GNOME dependent CD
ripper with a simple interface, or users who just
don't like the interfaces of the other GTK+ CD
rippers.

Marlin is a sample editor using GStreamer for
audio IO and GNOME for its interface. It has basic
editing features such as Cut/Copy/Paste, Paste as
New, Paste mix, delete selection, crop selection,
Insert Silence, and Swap Channels.

ripx is a script designed to make ripping CDs as easy as possible. It features CDDB lookup, ID3 tag editing prior to ripping, playlist file generation, album directory creation, and generally a nicer interface than many similar tools. By default, ripx uses cdparanoia to extract audio from CDs and lame to encode the audio to MP3 format at the quality of your choice. If you wish to use alternative applications for extraction or encoding, modifying ripx to handle these should be fairly painless.

Cactus is an audio player. It shows all your music
files in a kind of database, and you can easily
browse, edit, and search your collection. It also
supports synchronizing your music collection with
a mobile player device. It plays MP3, WAV, and
Ogg. It can also import and rip audio CDs,
automatically show album covers, tag MP3 files,
and maintain a fast library. A GTK 1.x binary is
also available.

bbJewel creates a PDF of a cover for the listed
MP3 files for the purpose of printing a jewel case
insert. It parses each file and extract the title,
artist, and length of the recording. It also scans
the files for included cover images. You can
provide the CD title and the cover image to use on
the command line.

cdmp3 uses cdparanoia or cdda2wav to extract single tracks or even a whole CD, and converts them on-the-fly into MP3 or Ogg Vorbis files. Using the CDDB database, it is possible to include information like the artist's name or the track's title into the file name or as meta tags in the file content.

Mp3tag is an Objective-Caml library for reading and
writing ID3v1 and v2 tags in MP3 files. It includes
mp3tag tools, which can be used to modify tags in
MP3 files or rename files according to their tags, and
a cddbtag tool that modifies tags by using a CDDB
server to retrieve information about the track.

Linux Burning Machine is a simple Web interface for LUGS and other people that need to propose a Burning Machine to anyone. This Web interface allows you to burn every ISO CDROM image present on the burning machine.

CDDBD.sh is a shellscript speaking the CDDB Protocol version 1 without enhancements and read only. CDDBD.sh allows to query a local database on a filesystem that was filled with entries using such programs like xmcd or kscd. CDDBD.sh was developed to be used in a local or home network and not to serve a WAN.

The One Ripper is a program for ripping and encoding MP3 files from CDs. It has
many advanced features, including background encoding, as well as queuing of
files to be encoded, ID3v1 and ID3v2 tagging, CDDB for track naming, easy
renaming of tracks from CDDB (to make dealing with multi-artist CDs easier),
flexible file naming, a choice of multiple encoders (LAME, Oggenc, BladeEnc,
and Gogo), and a choice of multiple rippers (cdparanoia, cdda2wav, and dagrab).
It includes some MP3 utilites for stripping ID3v1 & ID3v2 tags, retagging files
based upon file name, and creating band & album directories & playlists.

SvOlli's Little Audio Related Thingies, or SLART for short, is a compilation of rather simple programs that are related to audio files: it consists of a player (Partyman), a CD ripper, a tag editor, and some other tools. These programs can communicate with each other via a custom IPC bus, so a newly ripped track can be automatically queued in the player, for example.

ova is a convenient console frontend for ripping CDs and encoding MP3 and wave files to the Ogg Vorbis format. It is also able to query the CDDB given a CD (or saved CD discid) or several MP3/Ogg Vorbis/wave files (very useful for downloaded albums). Ogg Vorbis files can be tagged and renamed according to elaborate patterns.
